HELP NEEDED WITH OUR GRAPE HARVEST

This year we will have our first harvest, so things are both exciting and scary.  We hope to pick our grapes in 2 - 4 days somewhere near the end of September to mid October & need some casual workers for this.

We are looking for 5 or 6 people for paid work  @ £5-75 per hour.

                                 Working a 7 hour day 8am - 4pm.

OR

Alternatively we are aware that some folk may be interested in just coming to help out for fun for a day or even half a day picking grapes, in return for a glass of wine and a BBQ  at the end of the day.

If either of these options are of interest to you, please contact :

Text Box: AGER VITI

August 2009

Wow!  What a month!  August turned out to be fairly hot, lots of sunshine and again very little rain.  It seems that the eastern counties have been missing all the rain and have had another month of good weather, which for Essex, Kent & Sussex regional wines is good news.  The ground is cracked and the vines are still looking a little bit stressed but I am not too worried about this.  In theory . . . the vines should now be putting all their energy into producing the grapes and not into growing the vine shoots.

This month, once more, you will have seen us wandering up and down the rows of vines.  We had two additions to our team of casual staff they were  Tom and Mark, with continued help from  Jackie,  Jamie , Joe.  Work continued with the  ‘Bud Rubbing’ (rubbing young shoots off the trunks) & ‘Tucking In’ (tucking vine shoots back between the wires).  Any spare time was spent  completing the trellising, this really did sort out the men from the boys!

Our little red tractor continues to go up and down the rows, attempting to control any diseases with spraying along with the mowing and cultivating.

Have you seen our grapes!  With the continued hot and dry weather the grapes are ripening nicely (Veraison). After 4 years it is a wonderful sight!

Roll on Harvest . . . !
