2009 Harvest
Thank you to all our grape pickers. You were a lovely bunch (no pun intended)! It was a pleasure to work with you all and we hope to see you again next year.

Well what can I say? Yes we had another lovely month . . . the weather remained sunny, warm and dry. In August I was not too worried about this but after another month of no rain the vines really started to show signs of stress, leaves changing colour and beginning to drop off. The grapes have gone from Veraison (grape skins changing colour) to Maturation (acid within the grape turning to sugar). Tests throughout the month showed that Harvesting would be nearer the beginning of October not the end. |
|
This month has been a much quieter time on the casual labour front. With all the ‘Bud Rubbing’ (rubbing young shoots off the trunks) & ‘Tucking In’ (tucking vine shoots back between the wires) completed. All our casual workers have finished for time being until harvest starts. |
|
Our little red tractor continues to go up and down the rows, attempting to control any diseases with spraying along with the mowing and cultivating.
The Pinot Noir is looking good at the moment but for some reason the Chardonnay has been hit with Powdery Mildew and this will affect the fruit, we will have to see how much at harvest time.
A quieter month in all . . . calm before the storm? Roll On Harvest!
